Traditional Filipino Cakes with a Twist: Hanmade Desserts in Sydney

When your mum sends you a text that says “Jacqui, I can’t stoping eating the Sans Rival. I keep opening the fridge to take some little by little. Ang sarap kasi.” You know you’re onto a winner. And what an awesome find with Hanmade Desserts, a brilliant creator of filipino cakes and desserts available in Sydney’s north-west. I met the lovely Hannah via Facebook. I was visiting my parents over the weekend and in doing so, I love bringing them local filipino treats to share. I stumbled across Hanmade Desserts online and thought I’d give them a go. Hannah is great with correspondence and really approachable. She’s quick to respond and has an extensive filipino cake list available. Once you’ve secured your order, the invoice for payment arrives fairly promptly and you can simply EFT and following, schedule a pick-up time for collection. What is available at Hanmade Desserts you ask? I was slightly overwhelmed when I first saw her price list, more so because I was only after a Sans Rival cake, yet what …

Dog Friendly Stay in Sydney’s South Coast, Gerringong

I’m always on the lookout for pet friendly accommodation in Sydney as I love bringing Kenji with me wherever I go. For the next road trip, we’re met with a beautiful dog friendly home stay at Werri Cosy on the south coast of NSW, in Gerringong. This is such a brilliant and affordable find, a private 2-bedroom home located in a quiet, suburban leafy street, less than a 500m walk from Werri Beach. I’m going to confess, this area is a little hilly on foot, so a walk to the beach might feel like a slightly longer than expected. The house itself has a fenced front and back yard. We mainly used the front yard for our dog, however both yards are accessible if required. At the front of the house, there’s a gated car park area which would only fit a small hatchback. That said, we preferred to keep our car on the street to give our dog more area to roam. The front of this home was such a peaceful spot to relax …

Jolly Vibes Have Landed At Burger Point Marsden Park

Look no further as Burger Point Marsden Park in Sydney has added some filipino-flavoured goodness to their menu. A restaurant I would have never expected to do so, yet paying homage to some of my personal favourites, so why not drive here and simply check it out?! What looks like an everyday restaurant with a menu full of different burger and chicken options, actually has a second, secret filipino menu which is unspoken of unless you’ve been following their Facebook page. On their main menu, you have seven burger types to choose from (in addition to their Facebook featured house specials), share plates including fried or marinated chicken wings, hickory bbq grilled pork belly or a fresh bowl of chicken caesar salad. Of course, not to forget good old fries, sweet potato fries, or loaded fries topped with cheese. There’s no mention of the filipino treats I was teased with on Facebook, so as I approach the counter, I ask the question. And volia! If you’re wanting to try the crunchy, crispy chicken with traditional …

Dessert Alert: You Must Try Crepe Escape at Windsor

Scrolling through Facebook, my eyes light up when I see an absolutely delicious, Banoffee Pie Crepe featured in my newsfeed – that moment when you are intrigued to find out more. Crepe Escape you won me over with your simple marketing – a non-filtered, non-staged, post about food that you know I’ll want to eat. A week later, we’re here on a Saturday evening. We drove from Sydney’s north-west, only 15-minutes from the Hills district to Windsor. Whilst I’d like to think I’m the only one who’s been here and it’s a new find, within half-an-hour of arriving, the restaurant is a full-house. Clearly, I’m actually late to the party with this one. Crepe Escape is located on George Street in the heart of Windsor, so parking can be a little busy of an evening. That said, there’s a small car park at the rear and fingers crossed you may able to secure a spot. As our main, we ordered a Mexican Specialty Crepe, filled with diced beef, slow-cooked in a homemade, mild tomato salsa, …

Dog Bakery And Cakes Delivered in Sydney by Woof Gateaux

It’s time to celebrate my floofs’ birthday and whilst I don’t want to celebrate with an extravagant dog party, Kenji (my furbaby) has been such a great addition to our family since we re-homed him, that he deserves it! In search for a dog cake, I stumbled upon Woof Gateaux, a dog-friendly bakery, available for delivery throughout most of Sydney. And boy, what a selection to choose from. I thought it’d just be a handful of options, but no, there’s an extensive range of pet friendly cakes and baked goods to celebrate your pet special occasion. Imagine edible printed cookies, 5″ single and two-tier cakes, personalised cakes, pupcakes (similar to that of cupcakes – pet-friendly of course) or dohmuts (just like human doughnuts but for dogs). I’m drooling on my dog’s behalf, trying to make a quick decision for him, but I know he will absolutely love whatever I choose regardless of how big or small his cake is. So I opt for the 5″ Mutt cake which looked like the perfect size for my …
