Dog Friendly Hotel Stay in Sydney: Ovolo Woolloomooloo

With an impromptu weekend getaway in town, what better way to indulge in a hotel stay that allows you to bring your furbaby too? In search for dog friendly accommodation in Sydney, I found Ovolo’s V.I.Pooch package at the Ovolo Woolloomooloo Boutique Hotel. Located on the wharf at Woolloomooloo, with both city and Sydney Harbour views throughout, expect your stay to be in a modern and luxurious, eclectic yet sophisticated, heritage-listed building, transformed to an artistic and funky hotel. It radiates plenty of personality, in a great waterfront location with a range of trendy restaurants at your doorstep. If you’re staying with a dog, I’d highly recommend booking the Deluxaroo King Room (or larger) because the extra space is definitely worthwhile. At 46m2, there’s plenty of room for you, your dog, a king-sized bed, a comfy doggy bed, a generous sized bathroom and a walk-in wardrobe too. In addition to the pooch bed, Ovolo’s dog friendly V.I.Pooch package also includes use of two dog bowls, bottled water and a ‘doggy bag’ inclusive of complimentary Billy …

Hills Professional Mobile Pet Grooming in Sydney’s north-west

I stumbled across Hills Professional Mobile Pet Grooming whilst on a drive home in Sydney’s north-west. Sitting in the passenger seat, I saw their mobile unit drive past and I quickly took down their details to remember to call them. We use to take our previous Japanese Spitz dog to the local pet store for regular dog washing and grooming services. He was generally calm and happy to be left in-store and didn’t mind being handled for his grooming routine. That said, unfortunately our boy passed away… but later that year, we re-homed another Japanese Spitz dog named Kenji. To say the least, it was a very different experience when Kenji came to being washed and groomed – he absolutely hated it. Kenji was less than a year old when we re-homed him, so it took some time to build his trust with us, let alone with anyone else. Our initial pet store grooming service was not as expected – the feedback was that Kenji frequently barked and would not comfortably sit still for long …

Dog friendly: The Garden, Berry

During a weekend getaway with the pooch, you’re always on the lookout for the best dining spots that are dog friendly too. And what a gorgeous find. The Garden cafe in Berry is located in the heart of Queen Street. We had actually parked at the rear of the venue and from here, you can easily enter via the car park, leading you to the outdoor garden dining – which is also the pet friendly dining area too. Unfortunately they don’t take bookings unless it’s for larger groups, so it is first in, best dressed. I’d suggest you arrive before midday or earlier, as this is a very popular restaurant throughout the day with tables on high rotation. Despite being busy, the staff were very attentive, quick to seat you and the food was served quite promptly soon after you had ordered. We tried: The pot pie which was very tasty with plenty of delicious, juicy meat portions melting in your mouth at each bite. And the good old bacon and egg roll. The full …

Mercure Kooindah Waters, Central Coast Pet Friendly Stay

Less than a 90-minute drive from Sydney’s CBD, nestled between Sydney and Newcastle is the beautiful Central Coast. If you’re looking for pet friendly accommodation with the hotel perks included, do consider the Mercure Kooindah Waters Golf & Spa Resort (managed by Accor Hotels). Upon arrival, parking is fairly straight forward. It’s actually right in front of the room which makes things quite easy. Just keep in mind, this is a golfing resort, so parking can get filled by golfers during the day. The parking spots are not allocated per room, so if you head out, you might need to drive around in the parking area to find a new spot when you return. Inside our 1-bedroom apartment, it felt very ‘dog / cat’ like – there were photos of dogs and cats throughout. You have a decent sized kitchen including a full-size fridge with milk provided, stove, oven, microwave, crockery, cutlery, and a dishwasher. I did find it a little odd it only had two of everything, so you’d need to wash up immediately …

A View Not to Miss: The Hill Bar and Kitchen, Gerringong

The Hill Bar and Kitchen, you won my heart during our stay in the Gerringong area. What’s not to love? Epic water views over Werri Beach, modern menu dining options, and my ultimate fave, dog friendly outdoor seating too. I was quite surprised in initial passing – stopped in my tracks actually. We came from the other direction, taking a leisurely stroll with our pooch, unfamiliar with the area and then we saw The Hill Bar and Kitchen. Bummer because we had already purchased breakfast in hand, wishing we had decided to eat here instead. That said, it turned into one of those fortunate wins. The kiosk next door where we originally purchased our breakfast from, is still part of this venue (more so for takeaway though) and when asked if we were able to dine here, the staff had no issues with us eating our already purchased breakfast in the outdoor area with our pooch. Thank you The Hill Bar and Kitchen, you have one happy customer and it’s well worth the review just …
