Dog friendly: The Garden, Berry

During a weekend getaway with the pooch, you’re always on the lookout for the best dining spots that are dog friendly too. And what a gorgeous find. The Garden cafe in Berry is located in the heart of Queen Street. We had actually parked at the rear of the venue and from here, you can easily enter via the car park, leading you to the outdoor garden dining – which is also the pet friendly dining area too. Unfortunately they don’t take bookings unless it’s for larger groups, so it is first in, best dressed. I’d suggest you arrive before midday or earlier, as this is a very popular restaurant throughout the day with tables on high rotation. Despite being busy, the staff were very attentive, quick to seat you and the food was served quite promptly soon after you had ordered. We tried: The pot pie which was very tasty with plenty of delicious, juicy meat portions melting in your mouth at each bite. And the good old bacon and egg roll. The full …

Dural’s Hidden Gem: Lunch at Wild Pear Cafe

Wild Pear Cafe in Dural has been my go-to for breakfast every so often and I’ve always said we’ll book ourselves in for lunch at some point. So here we are returning once again, this time to enjoy their delicious lunch menu. One of my highlights each time we visit, is Wild Pear Cafe’s outdoor dining. On a sunny weekend afternoon, you have the option of either indoor or outdoor seating – pending if they’re not already at capacity. That view over the nursery is such a peaceful respite and gives you that little bit of greenery for a view, so why wouldn’t you want to sit on their undercover deck? I’ve personally found it feels a little more quieter on the deck too, rather than indoors. Our orders are taken promptly and service was very quick over the weekend. The trick for us (and the trick for you) is to arrive before rush i.e. before midday if you can, if you’re planning to dine for lunch. Otherwise, be prepared for a slight wait for …

A View Not to Miss: The Hill Bar and Kitchen, Gerringong

The Hill Bar and Kitchen, you won my heart during our stay in the Gerringong area. What’s not to love? Epic water views over Werri Beach, modern menu dining options, and my ultimate fave, dog friendly outdoor seating too. I was quite surprised in initial passing – stopped in my tracks actually. We came from the other direction, taking a leisurely stroll with our pooch, unfamiliar with the area and then we saw The Hill Bar and Kitchen. Bummer because we had already purchased breakfast in hand, wishing we had decided to eat here instead. That said, it turned into one of those fortunate wins. The kiosk next door where we originally purchased our breakfast from, is still part of this venue and when asked if we were able to dine here, the staff had no issues with us eating our already purchased breakfast in the outdoor area with our pooch. Thank you The Hill Bar and Kitchen, you have one happy customer and it’s well worth the review just because of this. It was …

Traditional Filipino Cakes with a Twist: Hanmade Desserts in Sydney

When your mum sends you a text that says “Jacqui, I can’t stoping eating the Sans Rival. I keep opening the fridge to take some little by little. Ang sarap kasi.” You know you’re onto a winner. And what an awesome find with Hanmade Desserts, a brilliant creator of filipino cakes and desserts available in Sydney’s north-west. I met the lovely Hannah via Facebook. I was visiting my parents over the weekend and in doing so, I love bringing them local filipino treats to share. I stumbled across Hanmade Desserts online and thought I’d give them a go. Hannah is great with correspondence and really approachable. She’s quick to respond and has an extensive filipino cake list available. Once you’ve secured your order, the invoice for payment arrives fairly promptly and you can simply EFT and following, schedule a pick-up time for collection. What is available at Hanmade Desserts you ask? I was slightly overwhelmed when I first saw her price list, more so because I was only after a Sans Rival cake, yet what …

Jolly Vibes Have Landed At Burger Point Marsden Park

Look no further as Burger Point Marsden Park in Sydney has added some filipino-flavoured goodness to their menu. A restaurant I would have never expected to do so, yet paying homage to some of my personal favourites, so why not drive here and simply check it out?! What looks like an everyday restaurant with a menu full of different burger and chicken options, actually has a second, secret filipino menu which is unspoken of unless you’ve been following their Facebook page. On their main menu, you have seven burger types to choose from (in addition to their Facebook featured house specials), share plates including fried or marinated chicken wings, hickory bbq grilled pork belly or a fresh bowl of chicken caesar salad. Of course, not to forget good old fries, sweet potato fries, or loaded fries topped with cheese. There’s no mention of the filipino treats I was teased with on Facebook, so as I approach the counter, I ask the question. And volia! If you’re wanting to try the crunchy, crispy chicken with traditional …
